North Idaho College issued the following announcement on March 2.
North Idaho College will present the concert, “Of Dreamers and Dreams,” at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 8, in Boswell Hall Schuler Performing Arts Center on the college’s main campus in Coeur d’Alene.
This concert is free and open to the public and features performances by the NIC Cardinal Chorale and NIC Chamber Singers.
“Of Dreamers and Dreams” will celebrate the beauty and optimism of the human spirit through the music and poetry of W.A. Mozart, John Tavener, Lodovico Viadana, Eric Whitacre, William Blake, Langston Hughes, and many others.
“After a challenging couple of years, it is important to remember that the human spirit can be uplifted with the power of our dreams and hopes,” Mendez said. “Additionally, with so much division in today’s world, music can be a strong source of healing where we can all connect. I wanted the choirs to celebrate these ideals in song.”
The NIC Cardinal Choral and Chamber Singers will join forces at the beginning and end of the concert.
Mendez is in his 17th year as Director of Choirs at North Idaho College. Under his direction, NIC choirs have traveled to Mexico City, San Francisco, and New York City to perform concerts. In addition to the NIC Cardinal Chorale and Chamber Singers, he also directs Cardinal Voices, NIC’s Commercial Music ensemble.
The NIC choirs and instrumental ensembles comprise NIC students, faculty, staff, and community members. To join any of these ensembles in the fall, contact Max Mendez at 208-769-3275 or Bryan Hannaford at 208-769-3258.
