North Idaho College Athletics issued the following announcement on April 7.
The community is invited to the fifth annual Northwest Undergraduate Conference in the Humanities from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, April 30 at North Idaho College’s main campus in Coeur d’Alene.
The conference celebrates the intellectual and creative achievements of undergraduate students from around the region and gives them the opportunity to present their work in a public and professional academic setting.
The keynote speaker this year is Dr. Amy Canfield, professor of History and Gender and Women’s Studies at Lewis-Clark State College. Her keynote address will be “You Don’t Own Me: Girl Groups, Feminism and Changing Gender Roles in the early 1960s.”
Canfield’s research interests include federal Indian policy, women’s roles in the 20th century, women’s suffrage and American popular culture. She recently served on the Idaho Humanities Council board and is currently board president of the Lewiston Civic Theatre and a member of Idaho’s Historic Sites Review Board. She has received LC’s Foundation Award for teaching, research and service excellence, as well as the Women Leadership Award and the Idaho Brightest Stars award for volunteering. She is passionate about social justice, women’s rights and Elvis Presley.
The conference registration fee - which includes access to all panels, snacks, lunch, dinner and keynote event - is $35 per person. Conference attendees can also register to watch conference panels only for $10 per person and to attend just the dinner and keynote event for $25 per person.
All panels will be held in the Bob and Leona DeArmond Building, and the dinner and keynote event will be held in the Edminster Student Union Building.
